Home-type air conditioner for vehicles without air conditioning

A mechanic in Adana has started installing household air conditioners on old model vehicles that do not have air conditioning. Due to hot weather, there is a high demand for air conditioning installation services.

In Adana, one of the hottest cities in Turkey, the temperature is above seasonal norms. According to the data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the temperature in the shade has reached 38 degrees, while thermometers in parks and gardens showed 47 degrees. With humidity, the perceived temperature has exceeded 50 degrees.

Air conditioners installed on old model vehicles

Many residents in Adana who own old model cars have had 9,000 BTU household air conditioners installed as they couldn’t cope with desert heat. It was reported that the oldest car to have an air conditioner installed was a 1972 model Tofaş Murat 124.

“Air conditioning is the only solution to Adana heat”

Speaking to Ihlas News Agency, air conditioning technician Fatih Demiryürek said, “We place the air conditioner on the roofs of the vehicles by cutting through them. The air conditioners we install are 9,000 BTU units like those found in normal houses. By blowing colder air than the air conditioners in regular vehicles, we cool people down in the Adana heat. We do not encounter any problems or difficulties. If there wasn’t this solution for Adana heat, no one could ride in their cars anyway,” he said.

“Cost is around 22-23 thousand Turkish Lira”

Demiryürek explained that those who do not want to buy a new model vehicle and are fond of classics usually opt for air conditioning installation. He said, “We try to help people as much as we can. The total cost is around 22-23 thousand. The oldest vehicle we installed an air conditioner on is a 1972 model. In fact, regardless of the model, we can install these air conditioners up to a 1969 model. Apart from that, we have even installed them on a 2022 model car without air conditioning. The customer is using it without any issues. Our main goal is to cool down the interiors of old vehicles,” he stated.

Furthermore, Demiryürek mentioned that the 9,000 BTU air conditioner can be installed in all vehicles and it runs on power from the battery.

Uğur Asar, who had an air conditioner installed on his 1972 model Tofaş Murat 124, said, “We can’t give up our car because it’s nostalgic. But we couldn’t bear the heat, so we found this solution. The interior of the car is now ice-cold. Everyone who sees it is surprised and asks questions. Onlookers want to take pictures,” he said.
