Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı emphasized the importance of the ‘July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day’, stating, ‘Today, our duty is to never forget this betrayal against our noble nation, to pass on the epic written by our nation’s heroism in defending our state and democracy to future generations.’ Governor Orhan Tavlı, in a statement issued on the occasion of the ‘July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day’, expressed, ‘On the 8th anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt by FETÖ, which was thwarted by the honorable stance of our noble nation and heroic security forces with unprecedented courage, we commemorate our democracy martyrs with mercy and gratitude, and I congratulate our noble nation for standing up for national will on the ‘July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day’.’ Governor Tavlı continued, ‘The ‘July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day’ serves as a symbol for keeping our societal memory alive against the treacherous coup attempt by FETÖ that infiltrated our strategic institutions, strengthening our democracy, and remembering our noble martyrs and heroic veterans. Our nation, united from 7 to 70, in response to the treacherous coup attempt by the FETÖ terrorist organization that aimed to reach out to our democracy by targeting the independence, sovereignty, and future of our state and nation, by the historic call of our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who stated that no power is above the national will, turned the treacherous coup attempt into a democracy victory, demonstrating unity, solidarity, and fraternity spirit that will endure forever on these lands to the whole world. Our noble nation’s victory, as a victory of the Turkish nation, our noble martyrs, and heroic veterans, will be remembered with glory, honor, and pride for generations, like the victories of Çanakkale, National Struggle, War of Independence, Korea, Cyprus, and our martyrs and veterans in the fight against terrorism. That night, not only our Republic, democracy, flag, and homeland were defended, but thanks to the noble Turkish nation, our noble martyrs, and heroic veterans, the state and nation stood up, and in the process after July 15, the terrorist corridor attempted to be established on our southern border with Operation Euphrates Shield, Operation Olive Branch, and Operation Peace Spring was fragmented, our national interests were protected in Libya and the Blue Homeland, the symbol of the conquest of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia, was reopened for worship, the 30-year occupation in Karabakh was ended, a strong start was made towards the second century of our Republic, the Turkey Century.’
‘Never to be forgotten’ Tavlı stated, ‘Today, our duty is to never forget this betrayal against our noble nation, to pass on the epic written by our nation’s heroism in defending our state and democracy to future generations. Working together as a nation with unity and solidarity, continuing our efforts for a growing and strengthening Turkey in every field in the new century of our Republic with the vision of the Turkey Century.’ Governor Tavlı, concluding his statement by saying ‘May the Nation’s Victory be blessed’, expressed, ‘On the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the Nation’s Victory, which ensures our country’s independence and our nation’s unity and solidarity, I remember with infinite gratitude, appreciation, and mercy our noble martyrs who made these lands our homeland, who wrote epics with their blood and lives, our 15 July martyrs who sacrificed their lives for national will and democracy, and our heroic veterans who have passed away to eternity, and wish health, well-being, and a life full of peace to our heroic veterans still alive. I salute our noble nation and the people of Samsun who did not allow the coup plotters, who stood up for national will and democracy, who filled the squares with respect.’
