Gediz Elektrik made a written statement regarding the deaths of 2 people who were electrocuted while passing through a water puddle during heavy rain in the Konak district of Izmir. In the statement made by Gediz Elektrik, it was stated that ‘There have been no complaints regarding our investments in the region in the last 6 months.’ The incident took place in the Alsancak neighborhood of Konak district. Severe rainfall in the city turned the streets into ponds, and during this time, Ozge Ceren Deniz (23) and Inanc Oktemay (44) got caught in the rain. Ozge Ceren Deniz and Inanc Oktemay, who were trying to cross to the other side from the water puddle on the road, lost their lives by getting electrocuted in the water. Subsequently, Gediz Elektrik made a written statement regarding this incident: ‘We learned with great sorrow that our citizens Inanc Oktemay and Ozge Ceren Deniz lost their lives by getting electrocuted during heavy rain in the Konak district of Izmir. While the investigation of the tragic losses that occurred yesterday evening is being carried out by the judicial authorities, we continue to provide all kinds of support to help the relevant authorities clarify the incident promptly. In the initial examinations, we emphasize that there is no overhead investment belonging to our company in the region, and the responsibility for the manholes reported in the news does not belong to our company. Furthermore, there have been no complaint records regarding our investments in the region in the last 6 months. We express our belief that the incident will be clarified following the expert report, and we emphasize that we are standing by the relevant authorities with all our support in the most transparent manner. We extend our condolences to the families, relatives, and all loved ones of Inanc Oktemay and Ozge Ceren Deniz, whom we deeply mourn.’
