Yunus Emre Institute continues to promote the Turkish language in a wide geography on the continent of Africa through its activities within the scope of the African Initiative. The Institute continues to carry out activities in various fields aimed at transferring Turkey’s cultural riches to Africa and establishing trust-based connections in Africa. In this context, Burundi has been added to the representative offices organizing Turkish language teaching activities in different regions of the continent. The first Turkish courses started at the Institute’s representation office in the city of Bujumbura, Burundi. Burundians who dream of studying in Turkey and visiting the country showed great interest in the courses.
“The intense interest shown in our Turkish courses organized for the first time in Bujumbura is gratifying”
Aziz Tolga Koç, the Coordinator Deputy of Yunus Emre Institute in Bujumbura, said, “The intense interest shown in our Turkish courses organized for the first time in Bujumbura is gratifying. Nearly a hundred students attended the courses we started in the summer period. We believe that the number of students will increase even more with the courses to be held in the new academic term at our representative office within the university.” Koç stated that they received hundreds of messages when they shared the course announcements on social media and added, “Our student profile includes university students as well as professionals from different occupational groups such as academics, pharmacists, lawyers, and soldiers. In the upcoming period, we plan to enrich our Turkish language teaching activities by introducing Turkey’s cultural qualities to Burundians through special activities.” Yunus Emre Institute continues to establish strong connections with Africans through Turkish language courses organized at its representative offices in various regions of the continent, including North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, and through cultural interaction activities.
