Governor Çelik: ‘Our duty is to not forget the treacherous coup attempt and to pass it on to future generations’

Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik released a message on the occasion of the Commemoration of 15 July Martyrs, Democracy and National Unity Day. Governor Çelik, stating that the Turkish nation, by demonstrating a perfect struggle for existence and showing the world that we will not be defeated when we stand united, has left as a legacy to future generations the spirits of courage and this beautiful homeland, said the following in his message: ‘The treacherous (FETÖ/PDY) terrorist organization, aiming to undermine the unity and solidarity of our noble nation, our country’s survival, attempted a vile coup on 15 July 2016, targeting the national will, disregarding the constitutional order, and aiming to abolish fundamental rights and freedoms. Our heroic nation, united as one body with women, men, youth, and the elderly for the indivisible integrity, independence, and future of our country, responded to these traitors who aimed their own weapons at their own people in betrayal. Following the call of our President and Commander-in-Chief Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they filled the streets and squares, stood against tanks, cannons, helicopters, and planes at the risk of their lives, protected our democracy by not leaving the squares empty for days. The heroic Turkish nation, by demonstrating a perfect struggle for existence and showing the world that we will not be defeated when we stand united, has left as a legacy to future generations their courage, spirits, and this beautiful homeland. Today, our most important duty is to protect our homeland, watered with the blood of our martyrs, without forgetting the treacherous coup attempt of 15 July 2016, without letting our future generations forget, to remain vigilant against the treacherous terrorist elements that target the unity and solidarity of our country, and to continue this struggle for the sake of the homeland and the nation with the same determination. With these feelings and thoughts, especially remembering Niğde’s pride and heroic son, Senior Sergeant Major Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer Ömer Halisdemir, who changed the course of the treacherous coup attempt, I once again commemorate all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland and the nation with mercy and gratitude, and wish our living veterans a healthy and happy life.’
