Cherries grown in Niğde, which ranks 7th in cherry production in Turkey, are exported to many European countries including Russia, China, Thailand, South Korea, Germany, France, and England. Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik stated that cherries from Niğde, especially from Altunhisar district, are highly demanded in foreign markets due to their quality and taste.

Cherries grown in Niğde, which ranks 7th in cherry production in Turkey, are exported to many European countries, especially Russia, China, Thailand, South Korea, Germany, France, and England. Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik visited the cherry packaging facility in the Altunhisar district of Niğde and provided information about cherry production in Niğde. Governor Çelik stated that Niğde ranks 7th in cherry production in Turkey, according to the 2023 data from TURKSTAT, Turkey’s cherry production reached 736,791 tons, with Niğde having a significant share in this production. Governor Çelik mentioned that in Niğde, 41,710 tons of cherries were produced on a total of 26,610 decares of land in 2023, constituting 5.66% of the national production. Governor Çelik noted that cherry production in Niğde has been increasing in terms of area in recent years, attributing this increase to the lack of marketing problems faced by cherry compared to other fruits. He emphasized that a significant portion of cherry production in Ulukışla district is aimed at exports. The main cherry variety cultivated in our province is the 0900-Ziraat variety.
Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik stated that an estimated 42,876 tons of cherries are expected to be produced in Niğde in 2024. According to the 1st estimate data of 2024 IVA, 42,876 tons of cherries are expected to be produced on 26,820 decares of land in our province. This production is exported to many European countries, especially Russia, China, Thailand, South Korea, Germany, France, and England. There are a total of 2 cherry packaging facilities, one in Altunhisar and one in Aktaş town. These facilities play an important role in packaging our cherries in international standards and making them ready for export. The successful performance of Niğde in cherry production demonstrates the agricultural potential of our province and the hard work of our farmers. We will continue our efforts to increase cherry production in our province and reach more markets.
