Aronia plant, known as a ‘super fruit’ worldwide, has been introduced to the soil in the district of Posof in Ardahan. The Ardahan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate supports the production of aronia, which is highly beneficial for health and is only produced in a few provinces in Turkey. Aronia fruit is very beneficial for health as it is rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. In addition to its daily consumption benefits, recent studies have classified aronia fruit as a medicinal plant in Turkey. Aronia stands out as a special plant with high added value and antioxidant value, containing antioxidant activity, phenolic compounds, a high amount of vitamin C, B1, B2, B6 vitamins, as well as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and zinc minerals. Muhammet Fatih Cineviz, the Director of Agriculture and Forestry in Ardahan, mentioned that the studies on changing the product pattern are ongoing. Cineviz stated, ‘In order to change the long-standing planting regime and product pattern, we have carried out aronia seedling plantations in Posof district. This work offers a new and feasible product to Ardahan. Aronia plants, which are highly resistant to cold weather, need cold temperatures for the flowering of plants reaching generative maturity. For this reason, Ardahan is very suitable for aronia cultivation. From planting to harvesting, high added value products can be obtained. Aronia fruits may have effects that can reverse or prevent heart, liver, and neuron damage due to their components such as antidiabetic, anti-infective, antineoplastic, anti-obesity, and antioxidant activities. Its use in the pharmaceutical industry is also important for our province’s economy.’ Fatih Cineviz, during the Aronia Demonstration Study in Posof district, conducted examinations in the planting areas together with directorate staff and producers. Posof District Director Güneş Tekin and the Coordination and Agricultural Data Branch Manager Akın Saraçoğlu accompanied Director Cineviz.
