Erkan Yeşilbaş, who was hired by the Ipekyolu Municipality before the election and then had his employment contract terminated after the local elections on March 31st based on seniority and economic reasons, filed a lawsuit against the municipality. Van 2nd Labor Court decided that the termination was invalid, granted the reinstatement of the employee, and awarded compensations. Cihat Demir, the lawyer of Yeşilbaş, expressed their happiness with the decision made by Van 2nd Labor Court, stating that the termination of his client’s employment within the Van Ipekyolu Municipality was unlawfully done. Demir emphasized that the court ruling sets a precedent in Turkey, especially after the recent local elections where many employees were laid off by municipalities.
