In Izmir, while a re-adjustment was made to the taxi fares that were increased 1 month ago, the final decision set the flagfall fee at 90 TL and the kilometer fee at 30 TL. After the recent adjustment of taxi fares in Izmir following the increase made 1 month ago, a new regulation was made. The latest decision on the increase passed through the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME). Accordingly, the flagfall fee, which was 80 TL, was raised to 90 TL. The initial flagfall is set at 20 TL, and the kilometer fees for taxis were determined to be 30 TL.
“We had implemented a tariff 1 month ago; however, there was an additional 6 TL increase in fuel prices.” Celil Anık, President of the Izmir Chamber of Drivers and Car Dealers, explained why there was another price increase after the decision for a fare increase was made 1 month ago. Anık said, “We had implemented a tariff 1 month ago, but then there was an additional 6 TL increase in fuel prices. Later on, we applied to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and stated that we wanted to make a revision, and we made our revision. The final decision passed through the UKOME general assembly; the short distance is 90 TL, kilometer is 30 TL, and the initial flagfall is 20 TL.”
Taximeter adjustments will be made free of charge. Celil Anık stated that the taximeter adjustments will be made remotely and free of charge by the Izmir Chamber of Drivers and Car Dealers. Anık said, “Last year, on August 11, we made price adjustments. It has been exactly 1 year. The kilometer fee was 22 TL 1 year ago. Looking at the high inflation, the increase in vehicle expenses, the rise in insurance fees, when we consider all these, we made our adjustments, our revisions. After the signing, we will announce it to our colleagues in the coming days.”
“Warning about pirate taxis: ‘Passengers are also at fault.'” Addressing the fight against pirate transportation, Celil Anık continued, “As the Izmir Chamber of Drivers and Car Dealers, we are doing our part; however, this issue cannot be resolved solely by our efforts. Today, three vehicles engaged in pirate transportation were shut down. What is important here is the need for legal regulations to prevent piracy. The penalties given to pirates are currently insufficient; vehicles are impounded for two months, and a fine of 30,000 TL is imposed. Additionally, a fine of 2,300 TL is issued to passengers boarding the vehicle. Their true identities are unknown. If an accident happens in these vehicles, your safety is not guaranteed. Passengers boarding these vehicles need to be cautious. You are riding with strangers, picking up passengers along the way. If any substance is found in one of their bags during an inspection, even the law-abiding passenger boarding the car will be considered guilty.”
