In regions where agricultural activities are intense, the Muğla Provincial Security Directorate Traffic Registration and Inspection Branch teams both carry out inspections for tractors traveling on the roads and also give reflectors as gifts to trailers without reflectors. Due to 83% of accidents involving agricultural vehicles occurring as rear-end collisions, to emphasize the importance of reflectors on trailers, a campaign called ‘Attach Reflector, Be Visible’ is launched, and all trailers are now equipped with reflectors for better visibility on the road. The Traffic Registration and Inspection Branch teams continue reflector checks 24/7 throughout the province for the safety of both farmers and other drivers, providing reflectors as gifts to tractors without reflectors. In a statement from the Muğla Provincial Security Directorate, it was emphasized that accidents involving agricultural vehicles occur due to deficiencies in the physical equipment of the vehicles; for instance, accidents happen because tractors do not have a suspension system, leading to skidding and rollovers. It was also mentioned that tractors over 25 years old in our country have rear axle-connected braking systems, while older tractors lack front axle braking systems, requiring more careful driving. Furthermore, it was pointed out that tractors are produced according to the ground they operate on, and in case of using tractors on asphalt surfaces, tire air pressures should be increased due to low adhesion rates when braking on asphalt. It is crucial for tractor drivers to choose the same gear for ascending and descending, ensure tires do not skid during sudden turns, allow 20% slippage in muddy terrains, and maintain a maximum speed of 5-10 km/h in rough terrains. Warning lights and ROPS bars are of vital importance and must be used when necessary. All trailer users are expected to comply with these recommendations.
