Under the Tatvan Port Branch of Bitlis Police Department, the Martyr Market and Neighborhood Watchman Isa Budak KB-1301 patrol boat does not allow the illegal fishing of pearl mullet. The maritime officers and patrol boat, who do not tolerate migration, fuel, and arms smuggling in Lake Van, also do not permit the illegal fishing of pearl mullet, which will end on July 15th.
Upon evaluating a tip received by the Tatvan Port Branch, maritime officers went out to the lake and conducted inspections on a fishing boat. As a result of the inspections carried out on the fishing boat, it was determined that the boat had set out to the lake for recreational purposes rather than fishing, and the boat owner was thanked by the maritime officers for complying with the fishing ban. On the other hand, 15 citizens who went out to the lake for swimming with a canoe and water bike were unable to return to the shore due to weather conditions, and they were rescued by the patrol boat and safely brought back to the shore.
Mehmet Pancar, who serves as a seafarer at the Tatvan Port Branch of Bitlis Police Department, stated, “Among our duties are continuous inspections to prevent migrant smuggling, fuel and arms smuggling, and illegal fishing in Lake Van. Furthermore, we carried out inspection controls upon observing a fishing boat outside today upon receiving a tip regarding the ban on fishing endemic species of pearl mullet from April 15th to July 15th. We determined that the boat had set out for recreational purposes rather than fishing. As a result of our inspections, we did not encounter any negative issues. In addition, with the arrival of the summer months, our citizens go out to the lake for swimming, canoeing, and water biking. Due to recent adverse weather conditions, citizens who go out have been unable to return to the shore. Therefore, in the past two weeks, we have rescued and safely brought back 15 citizens to the shore with our boat.”
