Tomara Waterfall, located in the district of Şiran in Gümüşhane and flowing from 40 different sources in the middle of the mountain, has become one of the favorite spots for nature lovers. The waterfall, one of the most impressive natural beauties of the region, mesmerizes its visitors not only with its view but also with its cool waters and lush green nature.

Located within the boundaries of the Şiran district, Tomara Waterfall, with its clear water flowing from approximately 15 meters high from 40 different points in the middle of the mountain, has become the destination for those who want to cool off in the summer. With the increase in the number of visitors as the weather warms up, Tomara Waterfall is shown as one of the 10 waterfalls recommended to be visited by tourism authorities in Turkey. Tomara Waterfall Nature Park, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Eastern Black Sea Region, offers picnic areas, a glass viewing terrace, a playground for children, and a restaurant.

The most striking feature of the waterfall is that its waters are fed from 40 different sources in the middle of the mountain. The waters from these springs come together to form a magnificent waterfall, offering a different beauty in each season. Those walking by the waterfall feel the change of seasons with the coolness of the water. In recent years, with the presence of wild goats descending to the edge of the waterfall and approaching people within a few meters, walking trails and picnic areas in the area also offer visitors many activity opportunities.

“Tomara Waterfall really impressed me”

Büşra Mutlu, who lives in Istanbul and visited her hometown Gümüşhane after 14 years, said, “I haven’t seen Gümüşhane for 14 years. I made such a journey after a long time because I was very curious. It’s a very beautiful place. But seeing Tomara Waterfall was wonderful. It was so beautiful that the refreshment it gave, the peace it gave was really beautiful. I can say I couldn’t get enough. It was wonderful. I was very curious about Tomara Waterfall when I was in Istanbul. I had the opportunity to come, it was very beautiful. Tomara Waterfall really impressed me.”

“I had come by chance before, now I came with my family”

Beytullah Genç, who came from Samsun, said, “I’m coming from Samsun. I had the chance to come once by chance before. It was fantastic, I liked it very much. I definitely wanted to come here again. It was the time of the pandemic back then. We didn’t understand much. Today, fate allowed me to come again. I came with my family again. An amazing place. When I first came here, I was expecting a waterfall, but I encountered a waterfall coming from its source. That’s why, it’s like a hidden paradise, a wonderful place. When my way leads to these parts, I will definitely come again. I didn’t come here now by chance, I came here by making an extra 250 kilometers of road in this heat. I am very pleased. We came here to have a good time as a family.”

“We can’t keep our feet in the water for more than 30 seconds”

Describing the seasonal change experienced in Tomara, Genç said, “It may be 40 degrees now, but believe me, when we put our feet in this water, we can’t keep them for more than 30 seconds. This is an amazing thing. And we can drink water from the source here. We also tasted the water. It’s really delicious water. That’s why we were very pleased here.”

“Our goal this year is to host 250,000 guests”

Business owner Zeynep Kara, noting that they started the season with the intensity of the holiday, said, “With the schools being on holiday and the coincidence of the holiday, we catered to a large number of expatriates. Our guest count, which increases every year, continues to increase this year as well. Our goal is to host 250,000 guests this year. We welcome our guests who are tired of the city’s crowds and heat with a unique walk in nature, with the coolness of Tomara Waterfall. Similarly, since we started our season, we have a place that includes everything from breakfast to dinner, from children’s playground to souvenir sales. We are waiting for our guests, we are waiting for our expatriates.”

“There are a few waterfalls like this in Turkey”

Kara reminded that another name for Tomara is “Forty Springs” and that Tomara Waterfall is one of the waterfalls formed by the waters emerging naturally from the mountain, “Tomara is also known as ‘Forty Springs’ and there are two in Turkey. One of them is with us. It is a point worth seeing because it emerges naturally from between the mountains. As it is a unique place in Turkey, all our guests should add it to their travel routes. Due to the extreme heat we are experiencing right now, the humidity rate is also increasing. But when we approach the waterfall road, the coolness on that walking path literally causes a change of season. As we get closer, with the breeze from the coolness of the water, a direct change of season occurs. We invite everyone who wants to escape the heat, crowds, and traffic of the city and take a breath to Tomara Waterfall.”
