Swimming courses are continuing in Mersin.

The swimming courses opened every summer under the Youth and Sports Services Department of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality continue this period as well. Thanks to the swimming courses attended by every citizen aged 6 and over, no one will be left without knowing how to swim in the coastal city of Mersin. Conducted at the Macit Özcan Sports Facilities affiliated with the Metropolitan Municipality, the swimming lessons, where approximately 500 course participants receive education, take place for 2 weeks. In the course, where children, youth, and adults receive training daily, 2 lifeguards ensure safety. Hundreds of course participants learn to swim in the Olympic pool, cooling off and learning to swim on hot summer days. Swimming courses, which started on June 24 and are given on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, will continue until August 29.
‘We provide our free training with experienced instructors’ Swimming coach Ekrem Erden, working in the Youth and Sports Services Department, stated that they started their first term on June 24, saying, ‘We will provide our courses this year in 5 terms. Our training sessions last an average of 1 hour. We serve approximately 500 children, youth, and adults per day. This year, we accepted course participants as young as 6 years old. After that, there is no age limit for our course participants. Our each term lasts for 2 weeks. Our course participants benefit from 8 lessons. We ensure they learn to swim as a result of these lessons.’
Erden emphasized the importance of knowing how to swim in the coastal city of Mersin, ‘Our primary goal is for them to learn how to swim. Our pool is an Olympic pool. We provide our free training with experienced instructors. Our course participants leave here quite satisfied. We have 2 lifeguards. During the lessons, we take all necessary precautions. We want all our citizens to benefit from this service. That’s why we spread it over 5 terms. We limited it to 2 weeks for a greater number of people to benefit.’
Both the little ones and their families are very satisfied with the swimming course. Defne Hena Kövenç, who participated in the swimming course training, expressed that she learned how to swim and had fun, ‘I learned diving, stroking, and the basics of swimming here. My instructors are very good. Everyone can come here.’ Adult course participant Nossi Krapp, originally from Germany, stated that he learned to swim at the swimming course of the Metropolitan Municipality, ‘I didn’t know how to swim at all. Now I swim very well. I am very happy. There are very nice people here.’
