Illegal betting site advertisements sprayed on many walls, especially at metro entrances in Adana, have caused outrage. Citizens demanded the immediate painting over of the places where the ads were posted. In recent days, operations against illegal online gambling and betting gangs, identified as a source of financing for terrorist organizations, have been ongoing in our country. 159,515 sites were closed down. In 2023, access to 159,515 sites identified as operating illegal online gambling, betting, and virtual casino games without a license in Turkey was blocked. However, as the betting gangs’ sites were blocked, they continued to open new ones and engage in illegal online gambling. Individuals who were found to be operating illegal betting on internet sites through illegal methods were individually detained in operations called ‘Cyber Eye,’ organized by the Minister of Interior Affairs, Ali Yerlikaya. They covered Adana with advertisements. However, unidentified individuals in Adana sprayed illegal betting site ads on many walls, especially at metro entrances, using spray paint. The advertisements for many illegal sites, which say ‘Register now for 555 free spins,’ were appalling. Courier Emre Can, speaking to Ihlas News Agency, stated, ‘These illegal betting ads are everywhere. They are leading our people into very wrong things. We want these ads to be removed. This illegal betting is ruining people’s lives. Unfortunately, there are people around me who engage in this illegal betting. People are desperate. I find it wrong to engage in betting and post these ads. If I see anyone putting up these ads, I will beat them.’ Citizen Sefa Alp explained that people are in difficult situations due to illegal betting, saying, ‘People see these ads and become members. I don’t know who is posting these ads, but measures need to be taken to prevent this. Adana’s name is being tarnished in this way. It saddens me a lot.’ Meanwhile, it is disheartening that one of the places where the ads were posted is the wall of the ‘Ünsal Firikçi Open Sports Facilities’.
