Dean Topçu: “An engineer is the person who transforms theoretical knowledge into practical knowledge for the benefit of humanity.”

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ), Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topçu, who spoke at the graduation ceremony, stated, ‘An engineer is a person who transforms theoretical knowledge into practical knowledge for the benefit of humanity.’ The graduation ceremony of the 28th term of the academic year 2023-2024 of the Faculty of Engineering at OMÜ took place at the Kurupelit Campus Life Center. Approximately 470 students who successfully completed their education in 10 departments within the Faculty of Engineering graduated at the ceremony. In his opening speech at the ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topçu, emphasized that engineering education requires consistent and diligent work rather than just intelligence and personal skills. He highlighted the critical importance of engineering in the current era and region, stating that engineers are those who turn theoretical knowledge into practical knowledge for the benefit of humanity. He also emphasized the role of a strong personality, strong will, and dedication alongside knowledge and experience in elevating the nation and country to the deserved level. Moro Umar Zakaria, who graduated as the top student from the Faculty of Engineering, also delivered a speech. Following the speeches, the first-place student of the Faculty, Moro Umar Zakaria from the Department of Chemical Engineering, the second-place student Buse Bakılan from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and the third-place student Şeymanur Demirtaş from the Department of Industrial Engineering were presented gifts by the protocol members. The ceremony concluded with the graduates throwing their caps after taking the engineering oath. Additionally, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Muharrem Özcan, Vice Deans Assoc. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz and Assoc. Dr. Nihan Kaya, representatives of professional chambers, academicians, graduate students, and their families also attended the event.
