In the Semi-Final match of the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (EURO 2024), Spain defeated France 2-1, becoming the first team to advance to the final. The European Football Championship held in Germany saw France and Spain facing off in the semi-finals. The match, officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, took place at the Allianz Arena. Dani Carvajal, who received a red card in Spain’s quarter-final match against Germany, and yellow card suspended Robin Le Normand were not included in the squad. Jesus Navas, who got the chance to play as right-back in place of Carvajal, became the oldest player (38) in the tournament’s history in the semi-final, while Spain’s young talent Lamine Yamal made history as the youngest player to play in this round. The fast-paced match saw the French scoring the first goal. In the 9th minute, Kylian Mbappe received the ball on the left side of the penalty area and crossed to Kolo Muani, who headed the ball into the net. In the 21st minute, Lamine Yamal of Spain equalized with a placed shot from the edge of the penalty area that hit the post and went into the net. Four minutes later, Spain took the lead. Dani Olmo controlled the ball that deflected from the defense after Jesus Navas’ cross, elegantly sidestepped his opponent, and his shot, despite Kounde’s intervention on the goal line, found the net. The teams went into halftime with a score of 2-1. France started the second half strongly, creating 2 clear chances. Despite France’s continued attacks in the remaining period, no more goals were scored, and Luis de la Fuente’s students won the match 2-1. Spain, securing a spot in the final, reached the final for the 5th time in the history of the European Championship. Lamine Yamal (16 years 362 days), who found the back of the net for France, managed to break the record for the youngest player to score in the history of the European Championship.
