The Green Environment Service and Operation Cooperative’s new 60 million investment, the Hazardous Waste Collection and Separation Facility, has been put into service. The huge facility processes 100,000 cubic meters of industrial wastewater daily in the region and analyzes these waters. Thanks to the new investment, it will purchase and separate the non-hazardous wastes of 430 different factories in 3 industrial zones for recycling.
Expressing the pride of inaugurating the project they started in January today, the General Manager of the Green Environment Service and Operation Cooperative, Mehmet Aydın, provided information on how the facility, costing 60 million Turkish Liras, will operate.
Stating that they purchase the packaging wastes generated by the 430 factories in Uludağ Industrial Zone, Barakfakih Industrial Zone, Kestel Industrial Zone, and Isabey Region on the eastern side of the city as Green Environment, separate them, and reintegrate them into the economy, Aydın said, “Green Environment is a cooperative established in 1998, currently serving 3 industrial zones in the eastern region of Bursa. At the time of its establishment, we are talking about a period when there were not only organized industrial zones but only industrial establishments. It was established for the purpose of treating the wastewater generated from production, and as of today, it has reached 430 partners. All the enterprises in the 3 industrial zones are partners of our Green Environment. Also, due to the participation of Bursa Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality, and BUSKİ in this structure, it constitutes an exemplary model in our country.”
Processing 100,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily
Reminding that Green Environment has been treating water since 2006 and providing added value to its partners for 18 years, Mehmet Aydın, General Manager of the Green Environment Service and Operation Cooperative, said, “Currently, we operate a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters daily. Following that, we provide our partners with analysis services in our laboratory, which has an infrastructure of 150,000 cubic meters, according to the demands of our partners. Especially our exporting partners need this service. In 2014, we went through a capacity increase and reached a wastewater treatment capacity of 100,000 cubic meters that year.”
Stating that they put the Hazardous Waste Collection and Separation Facility into service with a 60 million investment due to the need to legally and licensedly evaluate the packaging wastes arising from the partners’ production, Aydın said, “Our partners had demands in this regard. The purpose of Green Environment’s establishment is to produce the services needed by the industrial establishments in this region. Therefore, after completing this service, our new project is a water recycling project. As you know, with the climate changes, there are now regulations or rules similar to the European Green Deal that our country also has to comply with. Therefore, for preparation for these and also to contribute to the enrichment of groundwater, Green Environment is accelerating a 50,000 cubic meters daily water recycling project. I hope that 2025 will be the year we started this project. When we achieve this, Green Environment’s partners will be a facility that uses recycled water by taking a certain percentage of the polluted water from Green Environment.
These are, of course, positive points according to the European Union regulations. This will be an added point for our exporting partners. It will provide added value to them and strengthen their economy. Due to the purpose of its establishment, Green Environment intends to implement similar environmental projects in the future. After realizing these projects in the future, a comprehensive disposal facility is on the agenda of Green Environment. Therefore, when we implement this disposal facility, Green Environment will have established a disposal facility that will turn all the recycling in Bursa and its partners into energy. This will be a project that we have set as our advanced target.”
Emphasizing that they acquire and process the non-hazardous wastes generated by 430 separate factories in connection with production and reintegrate them into the economy, Aydın pointed out, “We have the license for this job. We separate harmless wastes, press them here, and send them to recyclers. Therefore, this service provided by Green Environment also provides added value to our partners. Since we are a licensed organization, we ensure the disposal of their wastes in a legal manner. This is important in this aspect. This project occupies an important place for Green Environment, which serves our partners in a fully integrated manner. Therefore, we sincerely believe that Green Environment, which will continue to work on the separation of packaging wastes, will grow, expand its capacity, and become a facility that collects, separates, and contributes to the economy in a comprehensive manner both for our partners and for Bursa. Our work continues in this regard.”
Finally, stressing the importance of the 60 million TL Hazardous Waste Collection and Separation Facility investment, Mehmet Aydın, the General Manager of the Green Environment Service and Operation Cooperative, said, “Green Environment was able to make this investment from its own budget without the need for any loans. Of course, in the future, this facility will grow, larger investments will be made internally. Necessary equipment will be provided. The capacity will be increased, and we are striving to become a facility that can collect, separate, respond to all packaging wastes here, respond to the Bursa market, and serve.”
