As part of the efforts to introduce and popularize local barley varieties to farmers in the Altıntaş district of Kütahya, the local ‘Ayrancı’ barley variety developed by the Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute Directorate affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was harvested.
Speaking at the local barley harvest program, Kütahya Governor Musa Işın wished a prosperous season and extended his best wishes for a fruitful harvest period to all farmers. Drawing attention to Turkey’s agricultural potential, Işın said, ‘Our country has fertile lands. It is a country that can sustain itself with its own food, able to live without being dependent on anyone. Thanks be to God.’
Governor Işın emphasized the increased importance of food during the pandemic period, stating, ‘No country or nation can give up on food. Food and health are the two indispensable aspects of human beings. Turkey, under the leadership of our President for the past 22 years, has made significant progress in both areas. This year, significant support and grants were provided in agriculture in our Kütahya, seed support was provided. As long as our people make efforts.’
Addressing the importance of the training and support provided to farmers by the Kütahya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Governor Işın said, ‘This year, farmer training meetings were held in all our villages. Grant supports were offered to our farmers. We are establishing a large Organized Livestock Zone in the Aslanapa district. The works have begun, and this project will greatly contribute to our province.’
Governor Musa, stating that they aim to increase Kütahya’s economic potential, said, ‘Our province’s total share in the economy is around 11 percent. Hopefully, we will raise this figure to around 20 percent. The tenders for 5 irrigation dams were held this year. When the dams are completed, they will make significant contributions to agriculture.’
AK Party Kütahya Deputy İsmail Çağlar Bayırcı and AK Party Kütahya Provincial Chairman Mustafa Önsay also attended the harvest ceremony held in the Geniş village of Altıntaş.
