Murat Ertaş, the President of the Turkish Language and Literature Association Erzurum Branch, expressed their satisfaction with the ‘Teacher Profession Law’. The President of the Turkish Language and Literature Association Erzurum Branch, Educator-Writer Murat Ertaş, expressed their satisfaction with the approval of the ‘Teacher Profession Law Proposal’ by the TBMM National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission on July 5th. In a report presented to the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, during the Education Summit of the Educationalists and Writers Association (ÖĞ-DER) on February 4, 2024, it was emphasized that education is a matter of national security, and therefore, there is a need to establish Teacher Academies similar to the Police Academy and War Academy. Murat Ertaş also highlighted the importance of Teacher Academies in shaping the spirit, determining the future, giving meaning, and defining the identity of a nation, stating that Erzurum already has the In-Service Training Center of the Ministry of National Education. He mentioned that it is inevitable for one of the Teacher Academies to be opened in Erzurum. Murat Ertaş continued by stating: ‘In Teacher Academies, regardless of the field of study, logic, etiquette, theology, philosophy, sociology, psychology, educational technologies, national history, national literature, philosophy, and psychology courses should be taught in the first year or two. In other words, teacher candidates should first get to know humanity, the world, and their own nation as a whole, learn to think like a national educator, and then specialize in subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc. Prospective teachers should achieve interdisciplinary knowledge and thinking skills, and each teacher should be given a ‘Teacher’s Handbook’ containing basic national values. This is our expectation from Teacher Academies.
