Debate over ‘Mount Bolu’ between two cities: ‘Is it possible?’

Bolu residents reacted to the statement of the Mayor of Düzce, Faruk Özlü, regarding the ‘Düzce Mountain’. Citizens pointed out that Düzce is a separate province from Bolu and expressed that Bolu Mountain belongs to Bolu. Mayor Özlü, in a social media post, stated that the name ‘Bolu Mountain’ is geographically incorrect and should be named ‘Düzce Mountain’, emphasizing that the mountain is geographically located on the side of Düzce. In the mountain dispute between the two cities, Bolu residents criticized Mayor Özlü’s statements. Sami Kutlu, who criticized Mayor Özlü’s remarks, said, ‘Can such a thing be said? First, solve the issues in Düzce. There are plenty of issues in Düzce. Change your own name.’

‘In the past, Düzce belonged to Bolu’
Ayhan Serçe, stating that Düzce used to be a district of Bolu, said, ‘Where were they all this time? Düzce used to belong to Bolu. Where did this come from all of a sudden? It has been known as Bolu Mountain for years. Do the people of Düzce really embrace this? Such nonsense should not happen.’

‘Bolu Mountain belongs to Bolu’
Yaşar Kocaay, emphasizing the need to protect Bolu Mountain, said, ‘Let Bolu have it, let’s give them Bolu too. What will happen? I think it’s not right. Bolu Mountain belongs to Bolu. We should protect it.’

‘Is that even possible?’
A citizen who reacted to Özlü’s statements said, ‘That’s not a thing. If Bolu Mountain is to be given to them, then apparently Bolu has no members of parliament. Can such a thing happen? Everyone has their boundaries. Düzce was a district of Bolu.’
