On the 635th anniversary of the martyrdom of Ottoman Sultan Murad I Hüdavendigar, he was commemorated with an event organized by the Osmangazi Municipality in Kosovo. The commemoration ceremony took place at his grave near the capital of Kosovo, Pristina, where Sultan Murad, the only Ottoman Sultan martyred on the battlefield, had his internal organs buried. The 19th annual commemoration ceremony organized by the Osmangazi Municipality was attended by numerous guests from Kosovo, Turkey, Macedonia, Albania, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, in addition to various protocol members. Prior to the commemoration ceremony honoring Murad Hüdavendigar, who opened the doors of Europe to the Turks, Erkan Aydın, the Mayor of Osmangazi, along with protocol members, offered prayers at the Sultan’s grave.
Among those present at the commemoration ceremony were Kosovo’s Minister of Regional Development Fikrim Damka, Turkey’s Ambassador to Pristina Sabri Tunç Angılı, TİKA Coordinator Fulya Aslan, Kosovo MPs Fidan Brina Jilta and Enis Kervan, Mamusha Mayor Abdülhadi Krasniç, Obiliç Deputy Mayor İbuş Myekiçi, President of the Meşhed-i Hüdavendigar Association Muhammed Ali Yıldırım, and members of the Osmangazi Municipality Council.
The ceremony, which began with the recitation of the Quran, included the prayer recited by Murad Hüdavendigar before he was martyred on the battlefield, read in both Turkish and Albanian. Mayor Erkan Aydın emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring the past, stating that failing to acknowledge the past properly hinders the ability to build the future. He mentioned that for 19 years, they have been organizing commemoration programs at the tombs of Sultan Murad in Kosovo and Bursa. Ambassador Sabri Tunç Angılı expressed gratitude to the Osmangazi Municipality for making the commemoration of Sultan Murad I Hüdavendigar a traditional event, highlighting the significance of Sultan Murad in history.
Regional Development Minister Fikrim Damka highlighted the impact of Sultan Murad I Hüdavendigar’s martyrdom on strengthening Ottoman rule in the Balkans and solidifying Turkish presence and culture in the region. He praised the efforts of the Kosovo Turks in upholding peace, justice, and cultural richness from the Ottoman era to the present day. He thanked the Osmangazi Municipality for their efforts to support the strong Turkish community in Kosovo and preserve their identity, language, flag, and values for the future.
Muhammed Ali Yıldırım, the President of the Meşhed-i Hüdavendigar Association, also expressed his gratitude to Mayor Erkan Aydın for organizing the annual commemoration programs.
