The architect of the ancient city of Kayseri, known as the city of libraries, the Metropolitan Municipality libraries, have become the favorite of bookworms, while the 13 libraries of the Metropolitan Municipality hosted 819,776 visitors in the first 6 months of 2024. Since taking office, Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, the Mayor of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, has been adding new libraries to the city in line with the vision of ‘Kayseri, the city of readers and educators’, and constantly increasing the number of fully equipped libraries, thus preparing an important cultural treasure for the future. In this context, the Metropolitan Municipality, with great effort, continues its efforts to solidly build the future of Kayseri on the foundations of knowledge, science, culture, and wisdom, while 819,776 book lovers visited the 13 libraries of the metropolis in the first 6 months of 2024. The 13 libraries of the Metropolitan Municipality of Kayseri throughout the city, including the Central Public Library, Gevher Nesibe Public Library, Sezai Karakoç Library, City Library, Beyazşehir Public Library, Ziya Gökalp Neighborhood Library, Argıncık Neighborhood Library, Mevlana Library, Erkilet Library, Halit Özkaya Library, Fuat Attaroğlu Children’s Library and Music School, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan National Garden National Tea House Library, and Yakut Neighborhood Library, serve students preparing for exams as well as book-loving citizens throughout the year. In the first 6 months of 2024, a total of 819,776 book lovers benefited from the 13 libraries of the Metropolitan Municipality, which serve with a total of 193,947 printed works. With a total of 300,000 members, the libraries, which received 15,317 new member registrations in the first 6 months of 2024, exceeded 300,000 members, and 162,615 books were borrowed from the 13 libraries in 6 months. The computer rooms in the libraries provide free internet and computer services, and all members can benefit from free photocopying and other facilities. While constructing modern libraries, the Metropolitan Municipality includes all technological equipment, ensuring the use of catalog scanning systems and library automation systems as in academic libraries. The Metropolitan Municipality creates living libraries and brings cultural activities to the citizens in the libraries. The Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its efforts to make Kayseri a city of libraries, will add new ones to the libraries it has acquired. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Metropolitan Municipality of Kayseri is nearing completion of the construction of the Provincial Public Library, covering a closed area of 6,100 square meters within the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan National Garden. In the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan National Garden, which has an area of 1,260,000 square meters, the gigantic Provincial Public Library, which includes specially designed common meeting areas beyond the classical library concept, is planned to be put into service soon. The Provincial Public Library, which will accommodate 250 people in a conference hall, 120,000 books, a group study room for 100 people, a mini exhibition hall, a Mimar Sinan corner and library, a special collections exhibition, a children’s library, and a baby library, will serve book lovers 24 hours a day.
