Istanbul Atlas University, which establishes scientific bridges with various universities around the world, signed a cooperation protocol with Redlands University located in California. The protocol signed between the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Yusuf Elgörmüş, and the President of Redlands University, Krista Newkirk, includes conducting joint scientific studies between the two universities. In line with its goals of internationalization, Istanbul Atlas University, which conducts joint scientific studies with various universities around the world, has signed a new collaboration.
A cooperation protocol was signed between Istanbul Atlas University and Redlands University in California, USA. The protocol was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Yusuf Elgörmüş, and the President of Redlands University, Krista Newkirk, at the ceremony held at the Valley Campus. According to the protocol, joint study programs will be carried out in the fields of Geographic Information Systems for master’s and certificate programs, as well as in the departments of Psychology, Business Administration, Software Engineering, and Computer Engineering.
Also present at the ceremony were Redlands University Rector Adrienne McCormick and Director of International Collaborations Sheli Stockton. Krista Newkirk, the President of Redlands University, emphasized the importance of Istanbul as a city where East and West meet, stating that Istanbul is a crucial city due to its unique location. She highlighted the innovative work and dynamic young structure of Atlas University as reasons for choosing this collaboration.
Krista Newkirk also mentioned the significance of Istanbul’s population size and the potential for sustainable environmental work in the city. She expressed that the collaboration with Atlas University will lead to improved living conditions not only in Istanbul but also in many cities worldwide. The parties believe that the joint efforts will bring great success to both sides.
Professor Dr. Kamil Eren, a Member of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Atlas University, described the collaboration as a historic day, focusing on international cooperation in digital transformation. He emphasized the rapidly growing sector of smart cities and digital transformation, projecting a market value of 30 trillion dollars by 2030. The collaboration aims at mutual diplomas, certifications, and in-service training.
Professor Dr. Kamil Eren also mentioned plans to initiate two major projects with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) after students complete their education at Atlas University and continue in California. The projects include monitoring carbon footprint to reduce carbon emissions and studying how greenery affects people’s quality of life, from health to income levels, transportation, and urban temperature in Istanbul, and potentially in all of Turkey.
