Nuri Sisman, the responsible manager of Southern Jewelers, stated that people are turning to cheaper souvenir gold items in the face of increasing gold prices, saying, “We started serving right after the disaster in the earthquake zone. The season is slowly starting, but the market is quite tight due to the rising prices. People can no longer afford to buy quarter, half, or full gold pieces. Currently, the new trend has fallen to half, and now 0.25-gram pieces are preferred. These are preferred more because they have a price of 600 TL for 0.25 grams of gold. So, they are more preferred during the wedding season. The gold culture is present in our region, and we cannot give it up. Due to increased costs and rising prices, people now prefer 0.25-gram gold pieces since they cannot afford quarters or halves. More sales are realized economically. Even though it is the size of a fingernail, as you can see, it is in demand just because it is gold.”
