Statement from Mayor Yavaş regarding saving measures

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated in his announcement regarding saving measures, ‘Saving is something that should already be done, it is already the duty of mayors to act economically.’ Mayor Yavaş visited the office of Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal to hold various meetings. Expressing their pleasure in hosting Yavaş, Mayor Köksal emphasized that Afyonkarahisar Municipality and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality will sign a protocol in the upcoming days to become sister municipalities. In response to journalists’ questions during the visit about the government’s implemented saving measures, Mayor Yavaş stated that the measures will positively impact the economy. Mayor Yavaş said, ‘Saving is something that should already be done. We have conducted our tenders openly and transparently, and we have shared every penny spent with the public through our website. We did not have any grand or crazy projects. Therefore, these saving measures have certainly affected us, but they will ultimately have a positive impact. We have discussed this issue with the Minister, and I think they will make some minor changes regarding the issue. It does not affect us much, but we will gladly comply even though there are areas where we are incurring losses in Ankara. They acted a bit hastily in the pursuit of saving, but we will comply willingly. It is already the duty of mayors to act economically. If our country has reached this state, it is due to corruption and waste, especially in this regard, as mayors, we need to set a good example, and hopefully, we will.’ The visit continued behind closed doors.
