In Buharkent, which does not have any competitors in terms of earliness in fresh figs, the 2024 season fresh fig harvest has begun. After the harvest of Early Yellow Lop Figs, the harvest season in Buharkent, which also produces early with Black Figs, is taking place 15-20 days earlier compared to other regions.
Buharkent figs, harvested about 15 days earlier than in other fig-producing regions, contribute significantly to the district’s economy with this earliness. This year, with the early warming of the weather and suitable climatic conditions, the opening of the season for fresh figs, which are a brand with their aroma, taste, color, and scent, brings smiles to many faces as there is a race against time to reach the tables.
“We are different in fresh figs”
Announcing the start of the 2024 season fresh fig harvest on his social media account, Mayor Mehmet Erol of Buharkent said, “As Buharkent, we are a different district in fresh fig production with more than a thousand producers and over 25 thousand tons of fresh fig production. The first fig harvest in Aydın is done here 15-20 days earlier. It is a very important product with its economic advantage and contribution to our district.”

Stating that Buharkent is the region where the highest quality fresh figs are grown in the world, Mayor Mehmet Erol said, “The harvest of fresh figs, which are the highest quality in the world, has started in Buharkent. Of course, the Aydın fig is the highest quality fig in the world. Buharkent is also the place where the first fig harvest in Aydın takes place. The harvest of our early figs, yellow lop, and Bursa black figs is done approximately one week to 15 days earlier than in other regions. For Buharkent, it is the most important product that has a very high economic value and gives life to the district economy. Actually, our most important asset is the fig. That’s why there is a great excitement, joy, and happiness in everyone during this period. Hopefully, it will be auspicious and fruitful. Our weather and season are going well. Hopefully, we will have a great season. We want our product to find the economic value it deserves and our farmers to get the reward for their efforts. Hopefully, it will be a fruitful year. Of course, when we look at fresh figs, the product we mainly harvest is fresh fig. Aydın is where the most dried figs are produced in Turkey. Buharkent is the only point where wholesale trade of fresh figs is made in Turkey. We are differentiated by this. There is an approximate production of 25 thousand tons of fresh figs in Buharkent. At the same time, the product named Bursa black, which is collected fresh, has a longer shelf life, and has more export feature, is very important for us as it starts to harvest 15 days earlier than Bursa and other cities. In other words, the most important factor that keeps Buharkent’s economy standing is fresh figs. We want our citizens, farmers, and producers to receive the reward for their efforts. Hopefully, our season will be auspicious, lucky, and fruitful.”
While the excitement of the harvest begins in the fig capital Aydın, carefully collected ‘yellow lop’ and ‘Bursa black’ type figs are starting to reach consumers. In fresh figs, where the producer, trader, and consumer are satisfied and the season is expected to realize a yield between 25,000 and 30,000 tons, an export income of approximately 100 million dollars is expected.
