Mersin Metropolitan Municipality continues its road works in rural neighborhoods. The teams carried out surface coating work on the 1,600-meter group road between Aladağ and Kızılgecit neighborhoods in the Toroslar district.
Road Construction Maintenance and Repair Department teams made the group road, which became non-functional due to natural reasons causing deterioration and wear, more functional and durable with their work. With the arrival of the summer season, transportation disruptions on the road, which is frequently used by both summer grazers and producers to transport their products, have been prevented.
“Both our summer grazers and farmers will now be able to use this road comfortably”
The rural field supervisor Nurettin Ekinci, who is in charge at the Road Construction Maintenance and Repair Department, stated that the road works in the Toroslar region are ongoing. Ekinci pointed out that one of the recent works was between Aladağ and Kızılgeçit, saying, “This road is also a summer pasture road and a road that farmers constantly use. It had been stable for a long time. We covered the total length of 1,600 meters with surface coating. Both our summer grazers and farmers will now be able to use this road comfortably. Previously, producers were having difficulties because of heavy tonnage vehicles. Our biggest benefit actually went to our farmers and summer grazers.”
“Our farmers were having difficulties in transportation”
The Muhtar of Aladağ Neighborhood, Tevfik Öz, stated that the road, which was previously in poor and unusable condition, was built by the teams of the Metropolitan Municipality after they submitted their requests. Öz emphasized that not only producers but also citizens who go to the highlands in the summer use the road, saying, “Our farmers were having difficulties in transportation. In addition, as our village developed, the number of summer grazers increased. Our citizens will now be more comfortable. Our farmers’ vegetables and fruits will not spoil, and our roads will not be dusty.”
The producer Hıdır Erkan expressed that their vehicles were damaged due to the poor roads, saying, “It had become difficult for us to travel by car. I thank them for saving us from these costs.”
