17-year-old National Wrestler Fatih Aydın, who started wrestling by admiring his wrestler grandfather and brother, is aiming for the world championship after becoming the 3rd in Europe. Aydın, the 3rd and youngest wrestler in the Aydın family, successfully continues the wrestling tradition inherited from his grandfather. Recalling that he became interested in wrestling by watching his brother Sevket Aydın, who was the chief wrestler in Karakucak wrestling, on TV, Aydın said he became a champion in his first participation in the Turkish championship. After winning the Turkish championships and earning the right to participate in the national team, Aydın won a bronze medal at the U17 European Wrestling Championship held in Serbia. He is now aiming to become a world champion at the U17 World Wrestling Championship to be held in Jordan next month.
“My brother and grandfather were also wrestlers.” 17-year-old National Wrestler Fatih Aydın, who explains that wrestling is a tradition in the Aydın family, said, “My brother and grandfather were also wrestlers. They encouraged me. I admired them from a young age. I constantly watched my brother on TV. My brother was wrestling as the chief wrestler in Karakucak wrestling. I started with enthusiasm. I became a champion at the first Turkish championship I entered. My goal was to become a champion in Europe, but I came 3rd. Now I want to become a champion at the world championship,” he said. Coach Gökhan Yıldız, who met Fatih at the Turkish Championship, stated, “He showed a remarkable success at the Turkish championship. We contacted his family and asked him to register at the Adana Ismet Atlı Wrestling Center. Then, he progressed step by step and achieved success. After his successes in Turkey, he won the Afyon Olympic Preparation Center and we directed him there. He is currently preparing for the world championship. We do not cut off communication with Fatih. We are constantly in touch. We provide the necessary information to the national team coaches and discuss what Fatih can do. We hope for a championship at the world championship from him.” Fatih’s brother and coach, Şevket Aydın, stated, “We introduced Fatih to wrestling. Our coaches here also helped him improve. We were expecting a championship from him in Europe, but it was fate to come 3rd. There is a world championship in August. Hopefully, he will make up for it and bring a gold medal to our country there. My late grandfather was also a wrestler. He directed me to become a wrestler. I also directed Fatih to wrestling, which is a family heritage. The tradition continues in this way. He will hopefully guide the next generations.”
