AK Party District Chairman Başdaş announces natural gas, urban transformation concerns
AK Party Konak District President Mehmet Sait Başdaş stated, “We are pleased with the positive development regarding the natural gas issue in Konak, but we also have concerns about whether the urban transformation expectations of the people of Konak are being shelved.”

AK Party Konak District President Mehmet Sait Başdaş stated, ‘We are pleased with the positive development in the natural gas issue in Konak, but we are also concerned that Konak residents’ expectations for urban transformation may be put on hold.’ AK Party Konak District President Mehmet Sait Başdaş evaluated the development regarding natural gas in the second session of Konak Municipality Council in July. Başdaş recalled that they made the first call to solve the natural gas problem in Konak last year by submitting a motion to Konak Municipality Council, stating, ‘Last year, we called for increasing the living standards of Konak residents. Our priority has always been for Konak to receive the service it deserves. The motion we submitted as the Cumhur Alliance last year was pending in the commission. In today’s (July 4) municipal council session, the motion we submitted a year ago was presented by the Konak Municipality presidency. This motion was merged with the motion we submitted and unanimously accepted.'”Konak should not waste time” Başdaş also mentioned the delay in evaluating the motion submitted a year ago, stating, ‘If our motion had been considered a year ago, many houses in Konak would have had natural gas today. Did the motion have to come from the presidency for it to be accepted? Konak residents should not waste time on any issue from now on. Urban transformation should be the foremost topic.'”10-year commitment” Başdaş congratulated all council members for this development that will improve the quality of life for Konak residents and solve the natural gas problem, even though it was delayed by a year, stating, ‘However, what should not be overlooked is urban transformation. Of course, we are happy with and support the development related to natural gas. However, the company providing natural gas services accepts to lay natural gas pipelines with a ten-year commitment. When this commitment is accepted, natural gas is laid. In this case, will the demand for urban transformation, especially in neighborhoods like Gültepe, be put on hold?’ Başdaş noted that Konak Mayor Nilüfer Mutlu pointed out a year later for urban transformation parcelation plans, saying, ‘Former Mayor Mr. Abdül Batur also kept giving a date for the announcement. However, those dates have not ended, and no steps have been taken regarding urban transformation today. We are concerned about this situation on behalf of Konak.'”Let’s not forget the disasters” Mentioning the earthquake disaster in Izmir in 2020 and the major earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş in 2023, Başdaş said, ‘Therefore, not to ignore urban transformation in our district, which is one of the districts with the highest building stock, and to prioritize work on this issue is our red line as the Cumhur Alliance. I would like to emphasize that our sensitivity on this issue will continue more than ever, and we will fully support the work on this issue.'”We should also be fast for transformation” Başdaş noted that the developments regarding natural gas are pleasing, saying, ‘We expect the same speed shown in the natural gas issue to be demonstrated in the urban transformation issue as well. While solving the natural gas problem, increasing the quality of life and welfare of those living in Konak should be one of the municipality’s priority tasks. We are also ready to provide the necessary support in this regard.’
