President Durbay condemned the attack on the Turkish flag in Syria.

During the July Council Meeting of Şehzadeler Municipality, Mayor Gülşah Durbay addressed the attacks on the Turkish flag and citizens in Syria, stating, ‘Our flag is the legacy of our martyrs, the symbol of our independence. I condemn with great anger any hand reaching out to our flag for whatever reason. I demand that necessary steps be taken and those responsible for this insolence be held accountable.’ The July Council Meeting of Şehzadeler Municipality, chaired by Mayor Gülşah Durbay, was held yesterday. A moment of silence was observed for the martyrs followed by the singing of the National Anthem at the beginning of the meeting where Mayor Durbay first evaluated the agenda.
“Mehmet Güzgülü is not forgotten” Mayor Durbay commemorated Şehzadeler Municipality Council Member and MHP Group Deputy Chairman Mehmet Güzgülü who passed away due to a severe illness in June, by saying, ‘Unfortunately, we are one person short in this hall today. We are experiencing the indescribable sorrow of losing our beloved figure of our city, who has served Manisa in various capacities for many years, and a symbolic figure of MHP that almost everyone involved in politics has had contact with, our Council Member Mehmet Güzgülü. I express my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones as well as to MHP. May his soul rest in peace.’
Evaluating the ugly attacks in Syria, Mayor Durbay continued her speech by addressing the attacks on our citizens and flag by some individuals and groups in Syria, ‘We have been seeing the ugly attacks on our flag and citizens in Syria on social media since yesterday. Our flag is the legacy of our martyrs. Our flag is the symbol of our independence. Our flag is our honor and pride. I condemn with great anger any hand reaching out to our flag for whatever reason. In the region where every need from electricity to water, shelter to food is met by our state, I demand that necessary steps be taken against the individuals or groups committing this insolence and their accountability be demanded from our authorities.’
Following Mayor Durbay’s speech, the agenda items of the council were discussed. 28 agenda items were discussed one by one and decisions were made. It was decided that the August council meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 6th. During the meeting, spokespersons of political parties with groups in the council also made statements regarding the agenda. In the council, Mehmet Baskak from MHP took the place of the late Mehmet Güzgülü as a new council member.
