President Aydın: ‘We will contribute to afforestation efforts’

The July Ordinary Council Meeting of Osmangazi Municipality was held under the presidency of Osmangazi Mayor Erkan Aydın. Mayor Aydın, starting his words at the council meeting by congratulating the Turkish National Football Team, expressed their intention to contribute to the reforestation efforts of the green area at Uludağ University campus damaged in the recent fire in Yolçatı Neighborhood.

Osmangazi Mayor Erkan Aydın, before moving on to the agenda items at the July Ordinary Council Meeting, informed the council members about the activities carried out in the last month to bring Osmangazi to much better points in all areas. In his opening speech at the council, Mayor Aydın also mentioned the victory of the Turkish National Football Team against Austria in the EURO 2024 European Championship hosted by Germany, stating, ‘Our National Football Team put up an outstanding match exceeding expectations and achieved an important victory. Our national team secured a spot in the quarter-finals. Hopefully, they will continue on their path with victories. The end of this road will be the final,’ he said.

‘We were among the first teams to reach the fire area’
Mayor Aydın also spoke about the fires that occurred in Bursa as well as in various parts of Turkey, saying, ‘Unfortunately, in the summer months, the most important agenda in our country is fires. Sadly, the majority of fires occur due to human causes. The fire that broke out in Yolçatı Neighborhood in recent days is thought to have originated from burning stubble or garbage, although nothing is certain. Approximately 200 hectares of Uludağ University’s land unfortunately turned into ashes. As Osmangazi Municipality, we supported the efforts to extinguish the fires by providing assistance with our vehicles and teams. We were among the first teams to reach the fire that broke out in Büyükorhan district and Yolçatı Neighborhood. It is crucial to reach the fire area early. With strong winds, the fire can spread rapidly to large areas. If the fire in Yolçatı was not intervened quickly, it would have been unstoppable from spreading to the campus area and dormitories.’

‘We will contribute to reforestation efforts’
Mayor Aydın stated that they will support the efforts to reforest the area affected by the fire at Uludağ University, saying, ‘In the autumn season, efforts will begin to reforest the fire area. As Osmangazi Municipality, we will do our best to support this reforestation work. Hopefully, we will turn the area green again. I wish Bursa a quick recovery. Hopefully, we will not experience such disasters again.’ The council meeting ended with the discussion of agenda items after the speeches and monthly activity presentation.
