Nilüfer Municipality, in collaboration with Nilkoop, has started harvesting the wheat planted on 71 acres. Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir, who participated in the harvest in Karacaoba Neighborhood of wheat planted from local seeds and grown without pesticides, said, “We are both protecting our environment and showing our farmers that production can be done without the use of pesticides in the region.”
Nilüfer Municipality, which conducts exemplary studies with ecological farming practices, started this year’s harvest with wheat. Nilüfer Municipality, which planted wheat on 71 acres in collaboration with Nilkoop this year, made its first harvest in Karacaoba Neighborhood. Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir also participated in the harvest.
The wheat, obtained from local seeds without the use of chemical pesticides through natural methods, was harvested. The wheat produced by Nilüfer Municipality within the framework of its agricultural policy in ecological conditions will be ground into flour in stone mills. The obtained flours will be used in the production of traditional products such as noodles, couscous, and tarhana at Hasanağa Food Center. Both the produced products and packaged whole wheat flours will be available for sale to the public at Nilüfer Bostan Sales Points.
Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir, who participated in the wheat harvest, stated that they are working to promote agriculture as Nilüfer Municipality. Özdemir stated that they produce wheat, chickpeas, sunflowers, corn, and dry beans in rural areas in cooperation with Nilkoop, using local seeds. Emphasizing that they transfer some of the harvest to the coming years as seeds, Özdemir said, “Nilüfer Municipality planted wheat on a total of 71 acres. Today we are enjoying the start of the harvest. We had a very productive period. We are producing wheat without using pesticides. Thus, we provide access to healthy food for our citizens. We also show our farmers that production without the use of pesticides is possible in the region. Therefore, it is valuable. We are producing in an environmentally friendly way by not using pesticides.”
Stating that they will support rural agriculture in every field, Özdemir said, “We say that the villagers of Nilüfer will once again be the masters of Nilüfer. We will increase their plantings and continue to provide support, organization, technical, and product support to strengthen the farmers’ production.”
