Vice President of the Welfare Party Suat Kılıç stated, ‘We support and encourage the messages towards normalization between the Republic of Turkey and the State of Syria. Understanding and explaining the reasons for hostile approaches between the two countries is not possible.’ Vice President of the Welfare Party Suat Kılıç made statements regarding the agenda after his party’s Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting.
Kılıç said, ‘The Republic of Turkey is a state of law.’ Regarding the allegation of a foreign national molesting a girl in Kayseri, he stated, ‘The nationality, allegiance, or which country’s citizen one is, does not matter. An incident of sexual harassment, sexual assault against a child occurred. We strongly condemn, denounce the aggressor. We can understand the reaction, sensitivity of the society in the face of these issues, but above all, it must be known that the Republic of Turkey is a state of law.’
Kılıç also mentioned, ‘In the face of dramatic events, the Republic of Turkey, including prosecutors, all institutions are on duty. The police are on duty. The gendarmerie is on duty. The prosecutors of the Republic are on duty. It is not a solution for civilian individuals, our citizens, or non-citizens to take matters into their own hands.’
‘Anti-refugee sentiment has peaked,’ Kılıç said. He continued, ‘Especially in recent months, anti-refugee, migrant, or foreigner sentiment has peaked in Turkey. Turkey certainly has a problem managing the refugee issue. It is the duty of the state institutions to find solutions, open alternative ways in the refugee issue, and encourage honorable returns in line with the promises given to the society before the elections.’
‘We strongly reject xenophobia,’ said Kılıç, emphasizing the need for opposition politicians to stay away from racist rhetoric. He stated, ‘We also strongly reject politics that consolidate voters by playing on racism or xenophobia in Turkey. We invite all our citizens to be prudent, act with caution, not deviate from reason and logic, and trust the state and its institutions.’
Kılıç highlighted the importance of politicians using clean language and guiding citizens correctly. He said, ‘If necessary steps are not taken today, the refugee issue will reach more critical dimensions in 5-10 years. However, the solution to the issue is not in xenophobia or racism. Attacking businesses, residences, vehicles, or assets belonging to foreigners is not the solution. Everyone involved in politics should act with a clean language in this regard, and guide our citizens correctly.’
Kılıç strongly condemned the attacks on the Turkish flag in Syrian settlements near the Turkish Republic borders. He stated, ‘We condemn the attacks on our flag with deep hatred. Our flag has been a refuge for the oppressed, marginalized, and downtrodden in this geography for centuries. We condemn those who attack our flag. All the authorities of the Republic of Turkey will fulfill their duty to protect our noble flag.’
Vice President Kılıç expressed support for the normalization steps between Turkey and Syria, stating, ‘As the Welfare Party, we support and encourage the messages towards normalization between the Republic of Turkey and the State of Syria. It is not possible to understand or explain the reasons for hostile approaches between the two countries.’ He added, ‘Turkey has become the refuge for those who had to flee or leave their country due to the civil war in Syria.’
‘Turkey and Syria are not enemies but two friendly states with long-standing relations from history,’ said Kılıç. He emphasized the urgent need for normalization and return of Syrian citizens in Turkey to a dignified life. Kılıç also questioned if the attacks on the Turkish flag in Syrian settlements are aimed at undermining the normalization ground between Turkey and Syria.
Kılıç also addressed the Sinan Ateş murder case, stating, ‘Our Welfare Party, like many political parties, closely follows this trial at the Ankara 32nd Heavy Penal Court through our lawyers. The sole expectation of the wounded social conscience along with the grieving wife and two daughters is the realization of justice.’
