MHP Municipal Council Group Reacts

Members of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in the Municipal Council expressed their reaction to Bilecik Mayor Melek Mızrak Subaşı for not including her off-agenda question motions in the council agenda during the meeting held at the Culture Congress Center on July 1, 2024. The July Municipal Council Meeting of Bilecik Municipality was chaired by Mayor Melek Mızrak Subaşı. During the meeting, the MHP group submitted a question motion containing some questions that they wanted Mayor Melek Mızrak Subaşı to answer. Mayor Melek Mızrak Subaşı, who rejected to include this motion in the agenda, requested the group to ask their questions at the end of the agenda. Then, Mayor Melek Mızrak Subaşı closed the meeting without taking any questions at the end of the agenda. In a written statement following this, the MHP Bilecik Municipal Council members stated, ‘The Nationalist Movement Party is one of the cornerstones of Turkish political life with its specific weight, and the MHP council members have been elected and accepted by the society. They are the representatives of a 55-year-old political movement in the council. Our party and council members are not in need of anyone’s mind, conscience, or favor to exercise their rights, nor are they subject to anyone’s permission in using their rights. Moreover, MHP council members are individuals who express the interests of the Turkish nation, especially of the people of Bilecik, in any democratic environment. Our council members never perform a duty that they would belittle as ‘Advertisement’ in the eyes of the Bilecik Mayor. On the contrary, it is imperative to listen to the questions and opinions of council members who derive their legitimacy from the law and the will of the people, and to provide answers. It is quite significant that despite the live broadcast made for informing our society and based on the decision numbered 2024/67, questions were asked about the Aleyna Tilki concert and organization costs, borrowing amount, personnel, but remained unanswered due to so-called technical difficulties. Now, the non-reception of our questions and obstructing the freedom of information of the people of Bilecik in this way has infuriated our patience. The reason behind the negative attitude towards the MHP council members has not been understood from the beginning. Is the underlying reason fear? We strongly declare that we do not accept the disrespect shown to our council members who are part of the municipal decision-making body and behaviors that even border on advising. We leave the judgment to the esteemed people of Bilecik, to whom we are responsible.
