Letter of support from earthquake victims to national football players

Students living in Hatay, which was struck by the earthquake, sent letters to the national football players competing in the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (EURO 2024). The national football players shared the letters they received on their social media accounts.

The A National Football Team will face Austria in the round of 16 of the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (EURO 2024) held in Germany tonight. A support came from the earthquake region Hatay, which everyone nationwide follows eagerly. Students from Fevzi Çakmak Primary School in Kuzuculu Neighborhood of Dörtyol district sent letters and drawings to the national team football players. The letters delivered to the football players who wore the crescent-star jersey the other day were shared on social media by the players. The earthquake-affected children expressed the voices of their little hearts, touching emotions with the letters they wrote and the pictures they drew.

Ahmet Vergili: ‘We drew pictures with our little hearts and sent them to the football players’

Ahmet Vergili, a 47-year-old class teacher at Kuzuculu Fevzi Çakmak Primary School, stated that his students wrote separate letters to all national football players, saying, ‘One of the sponsors of our national team, who is an employee, asked me, ‘Do you want to participate with your students in the excitement in the earthquake region?’ When he made this offer, we were having a picnic with our students and parents. Everyone expressed a positive opinion, without any degeneration, we wrote letters to our national team football players just to increase their motivation and excitement. We drew pictures with our little hearts and sent them to the football players. We wrote separate letters and drew pictures for all the football players in our national team squad. We prepared 32 letters.’

Ali Umut Edik: ‘I am very happy, I prepared the letter with excitement’

11-year-old Ali Umut Edik, who wrote a letter to national footballer Mert Müldür, stated that he closely follows the matches, saying, ‘I am very happy, I prepared the letter with excitement. I follow the matches closely. I am very happy when Mert Müldür scores a goal, so I wrote my letter to him. I get very excited when he scores.’

11-year-old Aybike Edik, expressing her expectation of a goal from national footballer Kerem Aktürkoğlu tonight, said, ‘I wrote my letter to Kerem Aktürkoğlu. I am very happy. 11-year-old Hamza Duran, who wrote a letter to national footballer Abdülkerim Bardakçı, said, ‘I got very excited while writing the letter. I couldn’t believe they shared my letter, I’m already a fan of Abdülkerim brother. I wrote ‘stand in defense like Hercules so we don’t concede goals, make us happy’. I expect them to have a great match.’
