Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit stated that the work for Manavşa Bee Pasture on a 600-acre land in Değirmençay Neighborhood is ongoing, saying, ‘I believe that we will produce the world’s most beautiful honey in Değirmençay.’ The Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of Yenişehir Agricultural Development Cooperative, which operates to contribute to agricultural development in Yenişehir, support local producers, and deliver quality products to citizens, was held at Atatürk Cultural Center. In the election held during the general assembly attended by Mayor Özyiğit, Harun Gökalp was elected as the president. Özyiğit, speaking at the meeting, mentioned that the work for Manavşa Bee Pasture in Değirmençay Neighborhood is ongoing. He expressed that they plant flowers that bloom at different times of the year in the bee pasture they will establish, enabling bees to find pollen for 11 months of the year. Özyiğit emphasized that they will also produce propolis and royal jelly besides honey to brand them. Under the cooperative, 3 product brands were established. Özyiğit expressed that their first step under the cooperative was to brand Yenişehir’s agricultural products and introduce them to consumers. They registered the patents of Yenişehir Karahacılı Pomegranate Molasses, Yenişehir Çavak Orange Jam, and Yenişehir Değirmençay Olive Oil. He stated that they opened a cooperative market for the marketing of these products, emphasizing ‘With our cooperative, we preserved both the effort of the producer and the quality of the product.’ Providing information about saffron production that started in Yenişehir, Özyiğit said, ‘We launched the Değirmençay Saffron Cultivation Project. With the project, we enabled saffron cultivation for the first time in our city. The price per kilogram of saffron currently ranges from 500,000 to 600,000 Turkish Liras. We have been harvesting for 3 years and entering our 4th year. The bulbs of the saffron plant are increasing every year, indicating more production.’
