The water level in the Mamasın Dam is at its lowest level in the past 10 years

Aksaray Mayor Evren Dinçer stated that the importance of water conservation has once again come to the fore in Aksaray, which has been experiencing the driest and least rainy period in recent years. Mayor Dinçer pointed out that the water level in the Mamasın Dam, which meets Aksaray’s water needs, is decreasing, stating that the water level in the Mamasın Dam is at its lowest level in the past 10 years, and he said, ‘We will continue to use our water sparingly.’With a water retention capacity of 165 million cubic meters, the Mamasın Dam is one of the most important sources providing drinking water for Aksaray. The Mamasın Dam is used for agricultural irrigation in April and May, causing the water level of the dam to drop to very low levels in some points during these months. Mayor Evren Dinçer announced that the water level in the Mamasın Dam continues to decrease and stated that the danger is serious. Mayor Dinçer said, ‘The water level in the Mamasın Dam is around 20%. In these days, the daily water consumption of our city has increased. The amount of water in the dam continues to decrease every day. The water level in our dam is at its lowest level in the past 10 years.’Mayor Dinçer stated that Aksaray is one of the most affected provinces by the drought experienced nationwide, saying, ‘According to meteorological data, Aksaray ranks first among the provinces with the least rainfall in recent years. Considering the lack of snowfall in the winter season and the expected amount of rainfall this year, our city is facing a drought threat.’ Mayor Dinçer, in a post on his social media account regarding water conservation, said, ‘Dear fellow citizens, in these days when the temperature reaches 40 degrees, our water consumption rate has increased by about 20% from 680 liters per second to approximately 800 liters. The water level in our drinking water source, the Mamasın Dam, is approximately 20%. Therefore, water conservation has become very important. With simple measures we take, we can save up to 20% of water in our daily lives and workplaces.’Mayor Dinçer, calling for water to be used efficiently, added that as Aksaray Municipality, they show the necessary sensitivity in this regard and carry out continuous awareness campaigns for more careful use of water.
