Atatürk University will open a summer school in 2024 to allow students to successfully complete courses they need to repeat or to reduce the course load in subsequent semesters by taking advanced courses.

Pre-registrations for courses will be held from 8-14 July 2024 for daytime education, and from 15-21 July 2024 for Open and Distance Education Faculty.

For daytime education, students can pre-register for up to 10 different courses; including common compulsory courses, they can register for a maximum of 20 ECTS credits. If a course exceeds 20 ECTS credits, only that course can be taken. Students who are in graduation status can register for 1 (one) additional course beyond this credit limit. A course for which pre-registration has not been made cannot be registered for.

Students can register for courses in the summer school that they have never taken in lower semesters, could not take the exam for, failed, or want to improve their GPA. Students cannot register for courses that are not in their curriculum (even if they have the same name and credit) with a different root code. Therefore, students will need to obtain the root code of the course(s) in their curriculum, open the course(s) in the department where they will register for courses, and request an external quota for their registered departments.

During the pre-registration period, students will have their final course registration (course approval) procedures done by their advisors within the specified time frame for the courses they have registered for and paid the fee. Students will cancel the course approval process of courses that have been registered and approved by their advisors but have not been opened for any reason, during the add/drop period.

The Summer School Calendar for the Open and Distance Education Faculty Has Been Determined

The timetable for the Atatürk University Open and Distance Education Faculty Summer School has been announced.

The Summer School will start on 22 July 2024 and end on 23 August 2024. The Summer School and Graduation Three Course Exam will be held on 24 August 2024 simultaneously and face-to-face in 81 provinces.

Students can take up to a total of 5 courses in the summer school (The courses opened will be assigned to students’ Course Registration System (OBS) as of 15 July 2024). Courses, primarily lower semester courses, previously failed (with an FF letter grade) and/or courses to be taken for the first time can only be selected from the following upper semesters (fall or spring) specifically in the summer school.

Practice courses in the curriculum programs can be taken in the summer school if they have been taken only in the fall or spring semester and a mid-term (quiz) grade has been obtained, but failed in that course. Practice courses that have not been taken at all during the semester cannot be taken in the summer school.

A student cannot attend both the Graduation Three Course Exam and the Summer School.

A student who is eligible for the Graduation Three Course Exam can attend the summer school if they register. However, in this case, they cannot attend the graduation three course exam.

Students who have at most three courses left for graduation and have failed to pass these courses in the 2023-2024 Academic Year Fall and Spring Semesters can participate in the Graduation Three Course Exam.

A Summer School and Graduation Three Course Exam will not be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Students there will need to make a choice among the existing exam centers in Turkey. If they do not make a choice, the exam center will be determined as Erzurum. Provincial exam preferences will be made between 15-21 July 2024. Entry documents for the exam will be published at least 5 days before the exam date.

“Supporting Our Students’ Academic Achievements Is Our Priority”

In an evaluation on the subject, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı emphasized that the summer school will provide many advantages to students. Rector Çomaklı, using the statement “Our summer school offers an important opportunity for our students to complete their missing courses, improve their overall GPA, and reduce the intensity they experience during the academic year,” announced that a wide range of courses will be offered in the summer school and applications will be made through the university’s official website. Prof. Dr. Çomaklı also stated that the summer school will provide an opportunity for faculty members to try and implement new educational methods.

Stating that they have adopted a student-centered education approach at Atatürk University, Rector Çomaklı wished success to all students and encouraged them to participate in the summer school by saying, “Supporting our students’ academic achievements and contributing to their development are our priorities. We believe that our summer school will provide great benefits in this regard,” concluding his words.
