Hitit University has been awarded the ‘Accessibility Award’ (Orange Flag) for 4 of its buildings at the ‘2024 Inclusive Universities Awards’ ceremony organized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). In the Accessibility Category; the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Sungurlu Vocational School, Faculty of Theology, Graduate School of Education, School of Foreign Languages, and the North Campus Social Life Center building succeeded in receiving the orange flag. Hitit University had 9 flags and 1 Inclusive Program Badge from previous years. The awards to universities were presented at the ‘2024 Inclusive Universities Awards Ceremony’ held at the Council of Higher Education and presented by the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. Özvar stated that the number of students in the higher education system has exceeded 7 million, and the number of students at different disability levels is around 58,000, emphasizing the importance of the work carried out in this field by the Council of Higher Education. Özvar mentioned, ‘Considering this number, it will be better understood how important our work in this field as the Council of Higher Education is.’ Özvar pointed out that they present Inclusive University Awards to support the participation of disabled students in social and cultural activities in addition to education and training, to provide the necessary adaptation, infrastructure, and equipment, and to encourage the creation of an inclusive ecosystem at universities, stating, ‘Through these awards, the efforts of our higher education institutions to ensure the full, effective, and equal participation of disabled individuals in higher education also make us happy.’ Rektor Öztürk’s gratitude Hitit University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Öztürk said that they strive to make all relevant improvements and arrangements to ensure accessibility in education. Mentioning that Hitit University continues its development with awareness of both physical and infrastructural disabilities, Öztürk expressed that the university’s efforts in this direction will continue, thanking everyone involved for their sensitivity shown and contribution given to the process.
