Municipality teams in the district of Alaca in Çorum are intensively continuing their fight against mosquitoes and flies, which are the biggest breeding sources in stream beds and manure areas.
Alaca Municipality has accelerated its spraying activities against flies, mosquitoes, and larvae threatening public health. As part of the general spraying activities that have been ongoing since the weather got warmer, larval control is carried out in manholes and marshy areas, followed by mosquito control in the evening and morning hours. In addition to these, spraying against poisonous ticks is also done in picnic areas such as recreation areas, parks, children’s playgrounds, and green areas. The teams also respond immediately to requests and complaints from citizens.
‘Mosquito Control in Streams’
Municipality teams are conducting mosquito control work with tablet application in places where mosquitoes breed, including stagnant water puddles and streams. Authorities state that mosquitoes are particularly caused by stagnant water puddles, and they express the importance of citizens preventing the formation of stagnant water around their gardens and surroundings. They emphasize that stagnant water remaining under pots in gardens and balconies triggers mosquito formation, and they kindly request citizens to be more careful about this issue.
With the arrival of summer, municipal teams spray all neighborhoods at regular intervals to prevent the proliferation of black flies, mosquitoes, larvae, and various pests. They regularly spray canals and ponds throughout the city. Especially focusing on garbage containers, Alaca stream, and park areas, the teams carry out spraying every 10 days, while the cleaning and spraying of containers are done monthly.
‘Citizen Support is Important’
Municipality teams draw attention to the fact that thousands of larvae can breed in manure areas and small water puddles where illegal dumping occurs. They state, ‘The support of our citizens is very important in vector control. The combination of our efforts with the precautions taken by citizens leads to more effective and better results. Our citizens should seal the mouth of garbage bags and place them in garbage containers, keeping the container lids closed. Taking these measures will contribute significantly to our vector control efforts.’
