The Mayor of Mudanya, Deniz Dalgıç, and the municipality employees, after their beach cleaning efforts, captured a photo that revealed the daily waste balance of beaches polluted by human hands. The population increase in the summer months in Mudanya, Bursa, triples, bringing along environmental pollution. Despite the uninterrupted efforts of Mudanya Municipality day and night, they cannot prevent the thoughtless pollution of the beaches by the citizens. Wanting to send a message to the citizens, Mayor Deniz Dalgıç, together with the municipal staff, set an example with a noble act. Approximately 60 volunteers working in the municipality and Mayor Dalgıç cleaned Güzelyalı Beach with their hands at the first light of the morning. The final photo of the team, meticulously cleaning the beaches from cigarette butts to the smallest pieces of garbage, revealed a heartbreaking scene. The fact that the piles of garbage, which were painstakingly arranged to fit into the photo, were the result of a day’s waste balance, was a sign that everyone should be more careful. Sharing the photos on his social media account, Mayor Deniz Dalgıç stated, ‘Today, we organized a meaningful event with my colleagues and volunteers to draw attention to the abundance of litter thrown on the ground. We are having difficulty in preventing pollution due to the insensitivity of individuals to their surroundings and society, who constantly litter. We must put an end to this. We need everyone’s sensitivity and responsibility to keep our city clean. It is much easier not to litter than to make an effort to clean up. Instead of one person picking up everyone’s trash, if each of us manages our waste, we will have a much more livable district. The best cleaning is not to litter. Cleanliness befits Mudanya.’
