The President of TESK, Bendevi Palandöken, stated that 696 traffic accidents occurred in the first 5 days of the Eid al-Adha holiday. Palandöken said, ‘Since the 9-day holiday that started on June 15 has not yet ended, 696 traffic accidents have occurred. In these accidents, 36 citizens lost their lives, while 6,550 citizens were injured. The 9-day holiday is coming to an end. Since schools are on vacation for children, some of the citizens will stay in their hometowns, summer houses, or holiday resorts. But as you know, we should not spoil the joy of this holiday. Hopefully, there will not be more losses on the return journeys. It is not possible to replace the lives lost with material damages. I want to emphasize the importance of being very careful on the return journeys in order not to spoil the beauty of both the holiday and the vacation.’
‘There are factors of body, age, and health during breaks’
Bendevi Palandöken, who warned the citizens who will set off on the return of the 9-day Eid holiday, said, ‘First of all, compliance with traffic rules, avoiding the anxieties of going back quickly due to fatigue and the intensifying heat, and ending this holiday with your family in a pleasant way is everyone’s wish. It is necessary to pay attention to traffic lights, road controls, blind spots, and accidents you see on the way back. At least taking a break for 15-20 minutes is very important for your body, health, and age in 2 hours, 1.5 hours. You may be very careful, but the other person in front of you may not be. Our roads are nice, cars are fast, but unfortunately, there are points where both the speed of the vehicle and your speed can lead to serious accidents.’
‘No room for negligence on return journeys’
Palandöken emphasized that there should be no room for negligence while driving during holiday returns. He said, ‘Imagine that the person in front of you is also tired like you, in return mode, unable to see the rear due to the loaded car, or not complying with traffic rules. There is a necessity for those who drive in convoy, following each other front and back. It can be a nightmare for those who follow speedily without knowing at which station they will stop. Therefore, trips should be made in the early hours of the morning or at times when the sun’s effect is reduced in a healthy way. Thus, we want you to return home safely after giving the good news to your loved ones you saw during this vacation, and we want the 9-day holiday to end. Traffic accidents not only affect lives and property but also those left behind spend their remaining life in sorrow. We hope you return to your homes again in a healthy way with your family after this holiday.’
