According to written sources in Elazığ, Harput District, which is the common point of a 5,000-year-old civilization and culture, stands out as one of the places that contribute greatly to tourism in the city. The historical neighborhood, which has a 5,000-year-old historical past listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List, hosts different beauties in all four seasons. With the arrival of the summer months, the neighborhood, which becomes even more beautiful, attracts the intense interest of local and foreign tourists with its inclined minaret, which is even more inclined than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and its historical structures such as the mosque, tomb, and Harput Castle. Harput, which has hosted many civilizations and resembles an open-air museum with its historical structures, is currently experiencing a high number of visitors due to the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Can Güzcan, a visitor from Mardin, said, ‘We are coming from Mardin. We really liked this place. We are especially curious about the local cuisine here and we will try it shortly. Overall, it’s good. As is known, Mardin is a historical city, and in that sense, this place resembles it. This is my second visit here, but I am as happy as if it were my first time.’
Fazlı Kömürlü, who expressed that they had a pleasant time, said, ‘We came to our beautiful Harput. People here are relaxed, cool, and peaceful. There is a very heavy traffic of vehicles, and we have a request from our municipality. It would be great if they could increase the frequency of buses to every half hour at least on these busy days.’
Halil İbrahim Gök stated, ‘This is Harput. We came here with my mother, father, sister, and our guests. There is a rush to Harput right now. It is cool and beautiful here because it is a high place, I like it.’
Eslem Şura, who went to the historical neighborhood with her parents, mentioned that Harput’s mosques and tombs are very beautiful and stated that they had a pleasant time.
