Serkan Can Zengin, the Founder Representative of Eskişehir Çağfen College, provided advice on how students and families who received their report cards and started their summer vacation can spend quality time.

As the 2023-2024 academic year comes to an end, students have started their summer vacation after receiving their report cards. While most students who received their report cards plan to relax during the summer break following an exhausting academic year, some continue to study. Serkan Can Zengin, the Founder Representative of Eskişehir Çağfen College, offered advice to parents and students. Zengin advised parents not to react to their children based on their report cards, stating that ‘A report card is not a final document, it is a process document.’ Serkan Can Zengin emphasized the importance of students developing themselves during the summer, highlighting the importance of foreign languages and activities. Zengin recommended that students preparing for exams study for the recommended duration by experts.

‘A report card is just a piece of paper’

Serkan Can Zengin, the Founder Representative of Eskişehir Çağfen College, who provided advice to students and families who received their report cards, stated, ‘Each report card is not a final document, it is a process document. Firstly, children need love and acceptance at all times. A report card is just a piece of paper, and the most important thing students should do during the summer is to improve their reading and writing skills. They need to work on their basic skills. What are these? They need to spend the summer engaging in activities such as home economics, developmental skills, dialogue, and writing. Summer is a time for rest and self-discovery. Therefore, instead of studying academically during the summer, it is best for them to focus on concepts and skills they can develop.’

‘You can watch an English movie for 6 hours’

Regarding how students, especially those preparing for exams, can effectively utilize their time during the summer vacation, Serkan Can Zengin, the Founder Representative of Eskişehir Çağfen College, stated:

‘If you are in an exam preparation class, then you may need to study a lot. Many experts already say this. Studying for two to four hours a day can be enough. But if you are not preparing for an exam, you should review the year, focus on foreign language. There is no time limit for foreign languages because it is not an academic subject. For example, you can watch an English movie for 6 hours, watch cartoons, read books. Therefore, focusing on a foreign language, i.e., the 2nd or 3rd language, my child, learning basketball is not a class; you can play for three hours, you can play for 15 minutes. My advice is this; revise academic lessons for 1-2 days a week for two to three hours, and spend the rest of the time on activities for self-discovery and skill development.’
