Turkey’s largest biological lake offers a visual feast

The pond, which is the largest biological pond in Turkey with 30,000 aquatic plants and located in Recep Tayyip Erdogan National Garden implemented by Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, offers a visual feast during the day and night separately.

Covering a total area of 1,260,000 square meters with 1,000,000 square meters of green space, Recep Tayyip Erdogan National Garden, completed in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKI) and Metropolitan Municipality, stands out with its different functions as it opened in the 100th year of the Republic.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan National Garden, with its 1,260,000 square meters area, carries the distinction of being the largest National Garden opened in Turkey, housing a pond with the feature of being the largest biological pond in Turkey.

The aim is to preserve, enrich, and provide biofiltration along with aesthetic designs in the region to create recreational areas by maintaining the water reserve within the biological pond and using plants. Plant materials play a significant role in biological pond systems, forming the basis of ecosystem services, and the selected plants suitable for the region’s climate offer services such as nourishing the water cycle, improving the regional climate, and cleansing the water source.

A total of 30,000 aquatic plants were used.

In line with this goal, a total of 30,000 aquatic plants including Nymphae (Water Lily), iris pseudocarus (Iris), Cyperus alternifolius (Umbrella Palm), Arundo donax (Giant Cane), Acorus calamus variegata (Variegated Sweet Flag), Acorus grandina (Grassleaf Sweet Flag), and Pontederia cordata (Pickerelweed) species were used in the biological pond located in Kayseri Recep Tayyip Erdogan National Garden.

With an area of 39,000 square meters, the pond offers a visual feast during the day and at night with illuminated devices, becoming the center of attention for visitors.

The pond, which provides biofiltration with 16,500 aquatic plants, has 4 bridges with different designs made of different materials, serving pedestrians.

Along the 1-kilometer pier road extending along the biological pond and at 2 different points overlooking the pond landscape, 16 cafe-restaurant units serve the citizens.

At the pier road, the Kayseri Kitchen, operated by the Metropolitan Municipality where visitors can taste Kayseri delicacies while enjoying the view of the pond, continues to serve to offer flavors suitable for the taste of the guests.
