The Global Environmental Movement ‘Zero Waste Project’ increased the recycling rate of waste from 13% in 2017 to 35% in 2023

As part of the Zero Waste Project, the recycling rate of waste, which was 13% in 2017, increased to 35% in 2023 through the efforts carried out. The target in this direction is to raise the recycling rate to 60% by 2035. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change is working diligently to achieve these goals.

The recycling rate of waste, which was 13% in 2017 within the scope of the Zero Waste Project, increased to 35% in 2023. The target in this direction is to raise the recycling rate to 60% by 2035.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change continues its efforts for a cleaner and greener world in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ‘2053 Net Zero Emission and Green Development’ goals. With the Zero Waste Project, which was initiated under the auspices of President Erdoğan’s wife Emine Erdoğan and has become a global environmental movement and a world-renowned brand, 59.9 million tons of recyclable waste have been reintroduced into the economy. Recycling has generated a profit of 185 billion liras from waste.

Within the project, Zero Waste Management System has been implemented in 188 thousand buildings. Zero Waste training has been provided to 21 million people nationwide. With the efforts made in Turkey so far, 498 million trees have been saved from being cut down, and 5.9 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions have been prevented. Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki stated in his remarks on the subject that they are transforming waste with the goal of a more livable, cleaner, and greener world. Minister Özhaseki said, “Under the auspices of the esteemed Emine Erdoğan, with the Zero Waste Movement, which has become a world-renowned brand and a pioneer in environmental projects, we are expanding recycling. The world is our common home, we will keep our home clean for our children,” he said.

Citizens also expressed their satisfaction with the achievements of the Zero Waste Project. A citizen who stated that the Zero Waste Project is a great application for recycling said, “It’s a fantastic application. We are very pleased with the practices. We thank you very much for the benefits to our future generations.” Another citizen expressed that the project is beneficial by saying, “Now our waste is being utilized. We thank those who have implemented the project.”
