President of TESK Palandoken: ‘It is important for our children to learn savings in a fun way in the fight against inflation’

The President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken, stated that ‘inflation is indeed high. In the fight against inflation, it is important for our children to develop a savings mindset and learn about savings in a fun way.’ President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken, made statements regarding children’s awareness of savings. Palandöken emphasized the importance of children directing their savings and learning about savings in a fun way in the fight against inflation. ‘One of the measures taken in the fight against inflation is directing children towards savings.’ Palandöken highlighted the need to encourage the use of piggy banks to teach children at an early age about savings and accumulation so that they can be disciplined in adulthood, as it becomes a bit more challenging. As you know, in the past, banks used to provide various toy piggy bank models to a certain age group to make these savings more attractive. These piggy banks attracted the attention of children, and children would save money in them. When mothers, fathers, and grandparents saw this, they would support them and contribute.
‘In the fight against inflation, it is important for our children to learn about savings in a fun way.’ Palandöken emphasized the importance of involving children in the process when teaching them how to save money. ‘People can no longer dream of buying a car, a house, or investing in land. Because inflation is really high. In the fight against inflation, it is important for our children to develop a savings mindset and learn about savings in a fun way. Children joking with each other about how much they have saved in their piggy banks, even when playing games with their friends, can increase their awareness of savings. Do not ignore what a piggy bank is. Those savings sometimes become beautiful stories in your school life, work life, and sometimes stories you will tell to future generations.’
‘A model like the Private Pension System (BES) should be determined to instill savings habits in children.’ Palandöken stated that while instilling a savings mindset in children, the state should support this process through banks. ‘In this period where saving is important, the state should contribute to piggy bank savings through state banks. A model like the Private Pension System (BES) should be determined. For example, children who save above a certain amount should be given small gifts. Or campaigns such as sponsorship deals should be organized, offering contributions like 2% or 3% to savings. This way, children will strive harder to increase their savings and reach their goals. Thus, the fight against inflation can start from a young age. Remember, children do not save for no reason. To encourage this, the state should create commercials on television channels to promote these practices, increase the production of piggy banks for children by all banks, and provide piggy banks as gifts to children opening accounts. Because such practices attract children’s interest and provide them with the opportunity to save more.’
