As the third day of Eid al-Adha in Turkey comes to an end, veterinarians are on duty at slaughterhouses and abattoirs determined by the Provincial Sacrifice Commission to ensure food safety for the duration of the holiday. Veterinarians working under the Animal Health, Breeding, and Aquatic Products Branch of the Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate are serving at slaughterhouses and abattoirs during the 4-day Eid al-Adha to ensure the public’s food safety. Veterinarians appointed by the Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate inspect live animals and animal products in licensed slaughterhouses and abattoirs where large and small livestock are slaughtered, aiming to ensure their production in compliance with hygiene rules for the health and food safety of both humans and animals. Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Deputy Director Serkan Kütük also participated in the duty at slaughterhouses and abattoirs alongside the veterinarians during the holiday. Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Murat Şahin, whom we consulted regarding the matter, stated that veterinarians assigned to work in the abattoirs and slaughterhouses before the holiday were designated and appointed. Director Şahin noted that teams are on duty during the holiday to ensure that our people can slaughter their sacrifices peacefully, emphasizing that one of the many roles of veterinarians who undertake various tasks in society is to establish public health and food safety. He further added that the veterinarians we have assigned to the points determined by the Provincial Sacrifice Commission continue their duties within the framework of the powers granted by the laws.
