Artabel Lakes Nature Park, located within the borders of Torul district of Gümüşhane, is one of Turkey’s magnificent mountain landscapes and a destination for natural beauty. In June, the park, with its lakes covered in ice, rushing rivers, magnificent waterfalls, and colorful flowers, becomes a corner of paradise mesmerizing its visitors. Hosting 22 lakes famous for their crystal clear waters, Artabel Lakes Nature Park transforms into a unique natural wonder with the arrival of summer. The park, surrounded by flowers resembling a painting and offering different colors at every step, provides unforgettable moments for nature enthusiasts and photographers, showcasing a perfect harmony of the lakes’ blue waters, white snow, and colorful flowers.
Referred to as the “summit where light meets water” and the “paradise of high peaks,” Artabel is situated in a high geography with valleys containing numerous peaks, including the 3,331 meters high Abdal Musa Peak, the highest point of the city. The park, filled with valleys hosting glaciers, endemic plants and animals, ancient migration routes, wild animal diversity, rich flora, and fauna, especially offers unique views and beauties for visitors during the summer months, being described as the roof of Gümüşhane.
Declared as a historical site due to the presence of martyr graves, trenches, war roads, and headquarters ruins from the Ottoman-Russian war period, Artabel Lakes Nature Park welcomes nature lovers from all over Turkey to see the gushing rivers, magnificent waterfalls, and crystal clear lakes during the summer seasons. The park, established as a nature park in 1998 on an area of 58,590 hectares, is visited by nature enthusiasts coming from all over Turkey to witness its enchanting natural beauty.
Members of the Ankara Mülkiye Nature Society, who made the first visit of the year to the 58,590-hectare nature park under the guidance of Gümüşhane Mountaineering, Nature Sports and Youth Association (GÜDAK) President Mustafa Akbulut, expressed their admiration for the pristine geography by using expressions like “extraordinary” and “magnificent” upon witnessing the scenery during their hike.
Various participants shared their experiences and impressions of Artabel Lakes Nature Park, expressing admiration for the natural beauty, diverse flora, and cleanliness of the area. Visitors emphasized the need to protect such pristine environments and appreciated the efforts of local communities and nature enthusiasts in preserving the park’s beauty for future generations.
