Presidential High Advisory Board Member Mehmet Ali Şahin stated regarding the statement made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, ‘It is necessary to avoid such words that will tarnish the continuation of normalization.’ Attending the provincial protocol Eid greetings chaired by Governor Mustafa Yavuz in his hometown Karabük, and then the Eid greeting programs of the AK Party Karabük Provincial Presidency, Presidential High Advisory Board Member Mehmet Ali Şahin emphasized the need to cut off the resentments and grudges as well as sacrificing, highlighting the normalization in politics. Şahin said, ‘We had not seen such normalization before previous holidays. The main opposition party leader Özgür Özel visited our President, and he reciprocated with a return visit. A good thing. This mutual softening in politics, which we had not seen before the holidays, was reflected to the public and political party bases. Therefore, the holidays enabled us to capture the beauty we had been waiting for together. After these mutual visits, our President made an evaluation saying, ‘It should not be as short-lived as the life of a butterfly, these softenings and normalizations in politics. It should last long.’ Indeed, these mutual visits and normalizations should last long so that politics in our country is truly conducted on a normal ground. After the return visit of Mr. Özel to our President, he went to Istanbul and made a statement with the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality next to him. He said, ‘(Addressing Devlet Bahçeli) You are pointing us to your criminal partner.’ Who is the criminal partner, the AK Party. In other words, he defined the AK Party as a criminal organization. I know Özgür personally, he talks a bit long and also eloquently. But speaking long in politics may not always yield good results. After achieving the purpose of your words, you should leave it there. Then our party’s spokesperson Ömer Çelik asked, ‘Mr. Chairman, you visited the AK Party a while ago. Did you visit a criminal organization? You welcomed Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at your office. Did you perhaps welcome the chairman of a criminal organization?’ In order not to be overshadowed by this question, it is necessary to avoid such words that will tarnish the continuation of this normalization.
